Kept · Habit app and brand

One ring a day.

A habit app and identity built around a single daily ring: one goal, one tap, one streak.

Scope
6 deliverables · 4 phases

The challenge

Habit apps keep adding features — charts, journals, social feeds — until opening them feels like a chore. People do not need more tracking; they need a reason to come back tomorrow.

Goals

  • Designed so the daily check-in takes one tap and under two seconds.
  • Designed to be recognisable on a home screen from the icon alone.
  • Built to work fully offline, with a home-screen widget.

Approach.

  1. 01

    One thing per day

You choose one habit. The app shows one ring. Tap it when you are done.

  2. 02

    The ring is the brand

The same ring is the logo, the app icon, the widget and the notification badge.

  3. 03

    Kind streaks

Missing a day bends the ring instead of breaking it. One rest day a week is built in.

What we built.

An identity system, an iOS and Android app with onboarding, the daily ring, a streak calendar and home-screen widgets, plus App Store listing assets.

Onboarding asks one question.
Today is one ring. The whole screen is the button.
Missed days bend the ring instead of breaking it.
The ring is the brand — icon, wordmark, widget and notification badge share one shape.

Concept screens, designed and built in HTML and CSS. All names, figures and data shown are fictional.

Design decisions.

  • A single gesture

The whole screen is the button. Haptics and a short sound confirm the tap without a pop-up.

  • Night by default

Most check-ins happen in the evening, so the app is dark first, with the ring as the only bright thing.

  • Words over numbers

“Twelve days” reads warmer than “12/30”. Numbers stay in the calendar for people who want them.

How it would ship.

The plan we would run for a project like this, with a demo every week.

  1. Weeks 1–2Brand workshop, identity directions
  2. Weeks 2–3App flows and prototype on phones
  3. Weeks 4–9iOS and Android build, widgets
  4. Week 10Beta, store assets, submission
